Sup, y'alls? I got told today that my lack of appreciation for 'Jack and Diane' and 'Pink Houses' by John Cougar Mellencamp was an indication that I didn't like music with poetry in it. 'Fie on you, Satan!' says I! I'm rebutting that claim with a bunch of tunes/bands I think have the qualities of poetry about them. While still keeping to my regular theme – that's right, we're still gettin' drunk, just like the poet in that X-Cops song – because poetry is always the better for having some form to fight against. So sayeth I.

Today is the end of December for Mother's Milk, which means it's time for Rum Doings. Which in turn makes it super appropriate that I finally found a bottle of Stroh 80 (pictured) today. The first hour is an eclectic mix as per usual, and the second hour is episode 20 of the fabulous Rum Doings show. This was a great episode, featuring John Finnemore, writer of some truly grand comedy for radio and TV. He's like, an actual celebrity. Which makes his appearance on Rum Doings either amusingly inappropriate, or absolutely what one should expect.

But it's alright when WRIR people do it, I guess. The Haberdasher played a bunch of holiday tunes tonight that I hadn't heard before, which was a pleasant relief from the already-painful stand-bys. And I hear Phil n' Cici's Xmas Xtravaganza thingy-bobby this past weekend was great.

Anyways, I don't do holiday music. So more drinking tunes… Thanks for listening!

Because I've been listening to those a lot this week. There will be clever word-play, bleak and incisive irony, moving sounds, and at least a couple of utterly disgusted takes on the middle class. Sounds like a good time, right? Don't worry – even if it doesn't, there will still be lots of drinking, which we can ALL get behind.

I'm playing delightfully passive music tonight. Just felt like doing a show that wasn't all in-your-face n' shit. It's low-key, melodic, wondrous tunage for… well, until I mess up and change the mood, and then go with it, probably. As always, on the fly! Drink up, and listen to the sound of pretty.

… I usually ignore holidays, but when they actually take place ON the day of the holida, I feel compelled to make some sorta nod, when it's, y'know, a holiday I approve of. So before this month's Rum Doings, we'll be checking out a bunch of drinking songs with creepy/deathy themes or – at the least – titles. It's gonna be dark, morbid, happy fun times.
