New Server, and Setlist For Tonight’s Show!

Our migration to a new server – which is much speedier – is complete, and we’re very happy about it.  Please comment here if you notice anything that’s broken, but a quick examination seems to show everything functioning better than it ever has before!

Since the site was unavailable during tonight’s broadcast, I was unable to post the setlist here.  It is available at http://wrir.org/index.php?/blog/entry/1337/ – due to the way it was saved at the WRIR website (in a table) it’s not cutting-and-pasting properly, and I think it would be better for all parties if you just go ahead and click the link, rather than me throwing a big ole’ unformatted mess on this one.  Next week will see the setlists return to mothersmilkradio.com – we apologize for any inconvenience.

If you missed the show live, as per always, you can download it in convenient .mp3 form at Radio4All.net.

Poe’s Pub hasn’t updated their calendar for October yet, so I can’t tell if they’ll have anything worth seeing or not, yet. I’ll update this list if they’ve got anything.

For the record, I vouch for every band on this page as being something worth checking out, if you’re into the kind of music they do, except for the Dead Kennedys thing. I’m pretty sure there’s no Jello in there, so it’s basically a cover-band as far as I’m concerned; if you want to see a Dead Kennedys cover band, you could probably do worse than seeing one with original members in it, but after all the drama between those dudes n’ Jello Biafra, it just seems kinda… I dunno. I balk at giving them my thumbs-up; they’re presumably reasonably succesful, so I don’t think they’ll mind too much. I mentioned it here solely as a curiosity, rather than as a recommendation.

Podcast up for the 08/31/2010 show!

DJ Ginger was great filling in on Monday night – I don’t know if she’d ever even listened to an episode of Mother’s Milk before, but she really got the vibe just right.  Everything from brit-pop to bluegrass, it’s a delightfully eclectic and wonderfully boozy mix of grade-A tunes.  So check it out:  Click here to download it.  Curious about the setlist?  It’s over at the WRIR website, here.

Shows for September in 2010!

You may have noticed that last night, I wasn’t manning the 1’s n’ 2’s – I was fortunate enough to find a delightful sub for the 8/30 show so I could go see Tesco Vee’s current project at Banditos.  It was awesome, and – catching the last hour or so after leaving the bar, last night – so was DJ Ginger’s delightful take on Mother’s Milk.  Expect the podcast of that to be up in the near future, but until then, here’s our guide to great bands to get drunk to, this month!

09/23/2010 – Bobby Bare Jr. @ IOTA (DC)
09/24/2010 – The Jim O’Ferrell Band @ Cary St. Cafe (RVA)

09/29/2010 – Swans @ Black Cat (DC)
09/30/2010 – Rory Block @ Ashland Coffee & Tea (RVA)

Buncha stuff this month!  Unfortunately, it seems like some of the most interesting stuff is in DC, so some road-tripping may be in order.

I suppose a bit of explanation is in order:  Generally speaking, every band I list on my monthly concert calendar has at least one truly great drinking song.  This month, there are a couple of exceptions; I included them, because they’re either bands I really like, or bands that other people I know really like, and I’m pretty sure that getting drunk at ANY of these shows will be a blast.

In case you’re worried you might accidentally see a band that doesn’t sing about drinking, here are the bands I can’t confirm a drinking song by: Deftones, Tears For Fears, Charlatans UK, Eels, Peelander-Z, Shonen Knife, and The Jim O’Ferrell Band. If you know of any drinking songs by any of those bands, please let me know in the comments so I can feel better about myself. 🙂
