An Inaugural Post…
Welcome to the new Mother’s Milk website. If you just stumbled upon us, you’re wondering what Mother’s Milk is.
To satisfy your curiosity: Mother’s Milk is a weekly radio show on 97.3 FM WRIR-LP, and streamed live on the web at www.wrir.org. The show runs every Monday night, from 11pm to 1am, EST. The kicker? Mother’s Milk plays only songs about drinking. From Irish folk to gangsta hip-hop, and hitting all the stops in between; we ignore genre and language in favor of content.
If you had visited the old Mother’s Milk website, you’re probably wondering what changes the new one will bring. At this point, that’s a little up in the air, but among the definites are: a permanently up site where you can look up past setlists at any time, from the beginning of the show on to the last week, news related to drunk music in the Richmond area, probably album and artist reviews… you know, just whatever neat things I can think of to put up.
Thanks for reading, thanks for listening, and thanks for drinking.

Setlist – 2/5/2007
. it’s cold as hell outside. Here’s to your finding a place warmer than my house, and some ice-cold booze to enjoy it with. I will probably be featuring a lot of songs by Slim Dusty (you may know him as the guy who wrote “The Pub With No Beer,” the first Australian tune to top the world charts way back in the day, covered by tons of peoples over the years) and a couple of new songs (to the show) by Great Big Sea, who are an awesome now-defunct-I-think Canadian band.
What’s your favorite bar? Call me at the station (649 9737), IM me, or drop a comment here, and let me know. I’ll tally the results in a few weeks, and announce them.

Setlist – 1/29/2007
I have some new stuff tonight, including the wonderful Ween song that I opened the show with, and some old stuff as-per-usual, these days. It’s been too cold in the room that houses my computer for me to get around to actually looking for more music. As always, listeners are encouraged to comment here, or email, or telephone, or AIM me (SN: WRIRAllNight) with suggestions. 🙂
Should be a good show. Thanks for listenin’ if ya do. Click Read More for the full set-list as it develops…

Setlist – 1/22/2007
Tommy from Dog Germs, my room mate and guitarist, is officially ten thousand years old as of midnight. He was actually born three days before dirt, but his official age is ten thousand.
Word, so I’m gonna play “Happy Birthday” by Concrete Blonde if I can find it, and I’m also going to continue my numerical-experiment by playing track 7 on all the cd’s I played track 6 of last week, and also some new stuff here and there I found on the shelf, so it should be diverse, interesting, and full of amazing synchronicity.
For the record, I had two full hours of new music for the show this week, but I was listening to it in the car when MY CAR DIED and I forgot to get the CDs out before I had it towed away to the shop. So expect a lot of new music next week instead. It’s all fun to get drunk by – and incidentally, I’m heading to Rocks for booze w/ the birthday-cat after the show, so if you want to spend the last thirty minutes before two drinking with a couple of WRIR DJs and hearing some godawfully repetitive goth music, feel free to join me.
Right. Click ‘Read More’ for the complete set list, updated every thirty minutes or so.

Setlist – 1/15/2007
What’s up? I think tonight I’m going to scour the shelves for a while and see if I see anything laying around at the station that’s drunktastic that I’ve never seen before. Feel free to booze it up, and thanks for listening. Click ‘Read More’ for the setlist as it unfolds in what will probably end up being 30-40 minute spurts between updates. Yeah.
EDIT: I think I’m going to play track six off of every CD I have in the order that I made them for the show over the past year, and see what happens. Cuz’ I’ve already played three track sixes in 4 songs, which seems like a sign or something.

Setlist – 1/8/2007
Frickin’ cold outside. I don’t like it. At least it’s sort of wintery; the whole summertime-in-January thing was pretty weird. Can’t decide if I hope it comes back or not. Started the show off with GG Allin – I had no idea he’d done so many laid-back country-sounding numbers; the amazing thing about them is that they don’t throw that f-word around so much. All the GG Allin I’m familiar with is in the dictionary next to “NEVER FCC FRIENDLY”.
Anyways, feel free to IM me at WRIRAllNight on AIM or call me at the studio with comments and requests, and click ‘Read More’ for the set list updated more or less as I go along.

Setlist – 1/1/2007 – The new year feels the same as the last one…
… but that doesn’t mean we can’t use it as an excuse to get liquored up. Tonight should be really random. I am filling in for Rock, Rock, Rock, Rock, Rock n’ Roll High School tonight after Mother’s Milk, so I was busy figuring out what to do for that. I decided to just wing it for Mother’s Milk. 🙂 Requests are welcome, via phone or on AIM at WRIRAllNight – drop me an IM any ole’ time.

Setlist – 12/25/2006 – Happy Saturnalia!
I know, I know, all you sticklers for technicalities are saying “But Josh, the Roman festival of Saturnalia, even at the latest it ever stretched, ended on the 23rd of December.” Well, I don’t have a SHOW on the 23rd, so I’m celebrating tonight. It’s not THAT big a deal – those Jesus-worshipping unwashed peoples co-opted the festival to make PR for their religion a little easier, and called it Christmas, which happens to be today. So I’m doing a modified, post-Christian Saturnalia, that’s all.
I’m not doing anything at all Christmas related, tho. No-siree. Not on MY watch. Well, except for Fairytale of New York cuz’ I do try to please everybody. For the rest of the set-list, click ‘read more.’

Setlist – 12/18/2006 – Double-shot of Dude!
Sorry, I just had to say that. After having a lot of fun with Talia’s Lousiana Dance Hall show, I get to do my own thang. I’m havin’ fun. Hope you are too. Feel free to call the station of IM the AIM Screenname WRIRAllNight – let me know what you wanna hear.
Bunch of new stuff tonight; I think it’s like 30% country, and the rest is scattered about from blues to hardcore to punk to rock to experimental to a really *ridiculously bad Eagles song that would diminish the name of any genre I called it a member of. Click ‘Read More’ if you want to see what I’ve played so far.

Setlist – 12/11/2006
I’m just doing my first-hour rotation for the… uhh… first hour? But the second hour tonight I’m going to try and play nothing but tracks that I love to listen to when drinking… that aren’t actually ABOUT drinking. Which is basically just music I love that isn’t about drinking, but not quite, because that means it has to make me want to cry or sing along, and not just enjoy it. And it can’t be about drinking. We’ll see how that goes. The setlist is posted below (click ‘read more’ to access it).
