Yessir, there is a lolcat for every occasion...

We begin Drug Month 2012 as we usually do, with a bunch of songs about cocaine. The second hour is almost entirely devoted to the make-up episode of Rum Doings, after I somehow lost track of time last week and did not realize May was about to end.

UPDATE: Fantastic! Mostly mellow show that got some requests in and was a general good time. Click here to visit Radio4All and download the podcast of it. As per always, click here to visit our Facebook page. Do you like us? Then like us! It makes us happy…

I swear, this guy's video is gold.

I'm gonna go thorugh the grab-bag of back-log here on the station's computer and try to clean up some of the mess in my volunteer folder for most of the show. BUT I'm totally gonna play my favorite new video first. Click the picture of Ed Sheeran drinking a Guinness to watch it. And you have to watch it: It's cool becuase of the video, not the song. The song, I would have dismissed the first time I heard it. Now that I've watched this video like 30 times I kind of love it. But that would definitely not have been my first reaction. 🙂

UPDATE: I sort of expected this show to kind of suck, but it at least 85% didn't. I should have more faith in myself; even when I have no idea what a song I picked out two years ago and never got around to playing sounds like anymore, odds are good that I picked it for a reason. That reason wasn't always a good reason, but it was reasonable at the time. As evidenced by my 85%-awesomeness ratio in this week's show. 🙂 If you're a fan of Mother's Milk, you'll probably dig most of it. I did. Click here to download it from Radio4All. I just now realized that I should have played this months' Rum Doings tonight, so that's going to be delayed; I didn't realize it was the last show of the month 'till I went to name the file for the podcast. Whoops. For the record, on the plus side, that means DRUG MONTH STARTS NEXT WEEK! Huzzah! As per usual, feel free to check out our Facebook page by clicking here. I like it when you do that.

PS: I smiley-emoticoned twice. I'm sorry. I try to keep my Mother's Milk post free of those things. But I can't help sharing my wry smiles with you, tonight. I hope you forgive me.

I thought that was wine. It's actually mineral water. But you probably didn't know that until you read this.

All German-language songs, tonight!

UPDATE: Haha, that was awesome. I was a little worried it wouldn't quite cohere but it ended up delightful. You totally want to click here and download the shit out of it. Then you want to listen to it. It's totally true. I talked to god and he told me so. You might also want to click here and be a fan of our Facebook page, cuz' it's cool and all, but I definitely wouldn't assume that to be true cuz'… y'know. Facebook. They're like Google if the motto was "Be Evil", right? Amiright?

PS – I know, I didn’t fill in all of the fields in that setlist. Where album-names are missing, it’s cuz’ I just didn’t know. Where labels and dates are missing? It’s mostly because I’m tired, and it would require a shit-ton of googling, and as far as the noise/crust/obscure stuff goes, might not even get figures out then. If you’re an artist I played and can tell me what label your record came out, and when, I will update it accordingly. I’ll try to remember to get on it on my own time and do that googling, at some point.

Killer...

When I started this show six years ago, I always intended to occasionally throw some world music in, even though it's not really my thing a lot of the time, because one of the things that really attracts me to drinking music is that it's universal. Every culture interacts with alcohol, has music, and makes music about their interactions with alcohol. There are probably a few exceptions, but even the cultures that currently disallow boozing still have a historical relationship with the stuff.

I didn't follow up on that intention much, because I don't really speak any other languages and I don't really know what to look for. When I've encountered stuff, I've thrown it up, and that's been cool, but ethnic/world/folk (in the true sense) music has not really been a big part of Mother's Milk. Until tonight! We're celebrating the recent release of a mass of Alan Lomax's recordings with two hours of songs that were classified as 'Drinking Songs' by his organization, Cultural Equity. Or all of them. I'm not sure if it's going to be less than two hours worth of music, or more than two hours worth, but we're going to play as much of it as we can, anyways. From Appalachia to the Carribean to the Soviet Union, we'll be listing to folks. Who drink. Do music. For drinking.

Aww… a little over an hour in, it stopped working, so I had to do something else. Oh well! Maybe we'll revisit this font of drunken world music in later weeks… it was an interesting show. If you like world music, you'll love the first hour. If you like punk-rock, rock, metal, blues and/or jazz, you'll like the second hour. If you like all that shit, you'll like ALL the hours! If you fall into any of those categories, download the episode by clicking here. As always, feel free to check out our Facebook by clicking here

What a boring font.

We are gonna do some clean-up, after we play a bunch of new stuff. So best of all possible worlds, right? Drink up!

UPDATE: Kick-ass! Managed to be mostly new stuff, thanks to the bunch o' stuff from fellow WRIR DJ Tommy Atrien (be sure to check out his show on Tuesday nights, from 1AM to 3AM) of the goth-industrial persuasion, and the new Blackout Shift stuff is totally awesome as well. If you missed it, after kicking yourself, pour yourself a dozen shots and click here to download it from Radio4All. As per usual, you can check us out on Facebook by clicking here

SHANE!

We're gonna play with the 80s tonight, for a bit… This photo of Shane MacGowan has nothing to do with the 80s at all, but it is awesome. So it is there. Revel in his glory! By the time you're done revelling, it's possible it may be time for this month's Rum Doings episode, which was fun.

Moping is fun, with cats and songs!

One of my two female best friends goes by the name 'Mope' and the other one only likes mopey music. Tonight, we celebrate the birthday of the latter with two hours of mopey drunken awesomeness. Mostly indie-rock, and mostly old Mother's Mik stand-bys, you won't be hearing much you haven't heard before, but it's all time-tested and stellar.

UPDATE: Solid show! It wasn't as mopey as I planned/feared, and managed to cover a lot of bases. Lots of big chunks of artists, and a good time. Download it from Radio4All by clicking here. As always. you can click here to check out our Facebook.

… but that works, cuz' my show is all about drinking. I think the warm weather is getting close to being here to stay – finally found some Summer Shandy in the store, tonight! It's weird, for a beer I hated the first time I had it, it's become something I get intense cravings for occasionally. Super-refreshing.

Yay! Summer Shandy is back!

We got some new stuff and some old stuff. Startin' out kinda Americana-ey, but we will see where the gremlins take us.

UPDATE: We lost the internet at the station for most of the second hour, which was weird. If you were listening to the webstream and it went away, that's why. Thankfully, you can listen to what you missed (whether it was just that bit, or the whole gosh-darned thing because you can't get drunk with us on Monday nights) by clicking here and downloading it from Radio4All. I encourage you to do so; it was solid. There were some long-sets-by-the-same-band to start out the show, but after getting all of that (brand spanking new) stuff on the air, we bounce around all over the place, and almost all of it was new to the show.
